It was late summer 2021—one of those clear blue Colorado mornings, high up in the Rocky Mountains, with the sun just starting to beat down on the dusty trails of South Park. I was in an old work truck, heading to another long day of chimney sweeps. At the time, I was neck-deep in HVAC work, mostly wood, gas, and pellet chimney inspection and installation.

The day started like every other. Fast. Dirty. Nonstop.

Like clockwork, I cracked open my usual morning "fuel"—a tall energy drink. Years of abuse had conditioned my body to function on nothing but caffeine, zero food, and barely any water. It had gone from black coffee in my teens, to soda in my twenties, to high-powered energy drinks in my thirties. By then, I was averaging two a day, sometimes more. Throw in 12–16 hour workdays and band practice at night, and you had the formula for total body burnout.
